Characters: The Priest- who helped
Jean Valjean to change his life and become a
better person.
Jean Valjean-“24601”a prisoner of stealing a bread who
broke his parole,
Javert-the official who is
hunting 24601,
Fantine-mother of Cosette,
Cosette-the daughter of Fantine whom Jean Valjeane
raised like his own Thenardier &Madame Thenardier-parents of Eponine and the foster parents of
Cosette,
daughter,
Marius- love interest of Cosette who fought in the barricade
revolution. Eponine-a friend of Marius
who is secretly in love with him,
Setting: France after the French Revolution.
Plot: The story started from Mr. 24601 who broke his parole and
continue to live a normal and honest life and helps other people but yet
struggles from the authority “Javert” who keeps on chasing after him. Added the
love of Fantine to her daughter Cosette which is very unremarkable and out of
kindness, Cosette was raised by Jean as his own daughter,a promise to Fantine
before she dies. And the story continue more on the Human Barricade for the
revolution of Marius where he is the one survive when Jean save him and been
reunited to Cosette and finally marry her.
Theme: It tells us that there is a possibility to change our “darkness
side” of our life into a brighter one. It is on us on how we should cope up
with it and to continue to build our life meaningful.
Symbolism:
Fantine—Symbolizes the
true love of a mother to her daughter. Who is willing to sacrifice and do
everything.
Priest- symbolizes
forgives and kindness and a light to someone’s miserable life. Javert: the strong person
who hides a weaknesses in his life when he decided to put an end to his life
when he jumped of and killed himself.
Jean: he symbolizes “change”
to us, as he prefer to go beyond to what he had from his past and continue to
bring light to his life and helps other.
Marius and his friends-
symbolizes loyalty and braveness to fight for what they stand and not to leave
others behind while battling in the revolution.
1. What does the title
mean in relation to the film as a whole?
- the title means the
misery that life brings from the cast, misery from life as prisoner, as life imprisoned
with anger, misery of sacrifice of a mother to her daughter, misery of love relationship
and a misery of slave.(child- Cosette.)
2. Among the
characters, to whom can you relate to?
-Among the characters,
I can relate myself to “24601” or Mr. Jean who wanted to live a peaceful life
but there are people who keeps on chasing and destroys my will to live a life
that I wanted to.
3. Which part of the
presentation struck you the most? Why?
-The scenario when
Fantine almost sells everything for her daughter. That she sacrifices from damn
pain just to have some bucks to bring to her dear Cosette.
4. What is the movie’s
message?
- If there is LIFE
there are struggles! It is up to us on how strong we are to fight for it to make
our life better or just give up and LIVE WITH IT and just wait till the DEATH
OF YOUR LIFE.
5. Did I like this in
general? Why?
-Yes, the story brings
a lot of learning in one’s life. That life is not all about happiness and
victory but it is all about misery that makes our life worthy and meaningful by
how we deal with it.
6. Did I agree with
the main theme/purpose? Why or why not?
-Yes, it shows that
the great teacher is not what we typically knew but it is the ‘’LIFE” that
keeps on teaching us on how to become a better individual.
7. What specifically
did I like/dislike? Why?
- Gavroche, a happy young child
who died in the revolution. It shows how cruel others that he doesn’t care
about how young or old you are, if you opposed from them, sure thing you’ll
suffer.
8. Are there any
aspects of theme which are left ambiguous at the end? Why?
-none.
9. How does this film
relate to the things that are happening in your life?
-How I continue to
struggle in life as a student and as an individual for my bright future ahead.
